Obidos, which was one of the candidates to the seven wonders of Portugal in 2007, is an historic Portuguese town that carries us to ancient times. A little bit of History:
"Conquered from the Moors by the troops of the first Portuguese King, D. Afonso Henriques, in 1148, Óbidos was donated in 1210 by D. Afonso II to his wife, Queen Urraca, and subsequently donated to Queen Santa Isabel by her husband, King D. Dinis, in 1281. Obidos was, until 1883, a land of queens, and that’s perhaps why it has kept its picturesque and romantic environment so well preserved over the centuries. "
