Located along the West-coast region known as the 'Platinum Coast', the Mill House has that old world charm. Originally part of a sugar plantation called Friendly Hall, it has been recently restored in a simple but attractive manner. Mill House has the ambience of a French country house, with thick coral walls and high ceilings that keep it cool without the need for air-conditioning. French doors off the living and dining rooms open onto secluded patios. The original Mill Tower remains in the fenced yard, surrounded by coconut and sago palm trees, spider lilies, and brilliantly colored frangipani and bougainvillea. Perhaps the principal attraction of the Mill House is its beauty--it is the opposite of the typical bland and personality-free rental unit. Another feature of Mill House is the isolation from the centers of tourism. This makes it ideal for that perfect get-away from it all retreat. Nearby Speightstown, the capital of St. Lucy’s Parish, is a market town dating from the 18th century. About a 10 minute drive from the Mill House, it has a well-stocked supermarket, daily markets with local produce, banks, ATM machines, restaurants and more. The Fish Pot restaurant (in Little Good Harbor) and the best fish fry on Barbados (Merton's, at Half Moon Fort) are even closer. Fishermen sell their catch most afternoons along the road from the Mill House to Speightstown, in a little community called 'Six Mens’.
