Calatafimi
The name of the town of Calatafimi derives from the Arabic Calat castle - and Phimes Castle.
Cicero wrote that this family had large estates in the territory of Segesta. It’s the nearest town to Segesta at a distance of only 5 km. The settlement of Calatafimi is the only survivor of the three medieval Segestes.
The three medieval Segestes were: Calathamet (near the thermal baths of Segesta) Calatabarbaro and Calatafimi.
Today Calatafimi has been renamed Calatafimi Segesta. It is a town rich in churches, monuments and works of art.
