Tholos - Theologos
The resort of Theologos is situated on the Northwest side of the island of Rhodes. It is only 20 kilometres from Rhodes town.
Tholos, sometimes called Theologos, is a magical combination of a colorful traditional village and a not bustling resort. In ancient times it was named Demos Istanion. There is a sprinkling of shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants around the hotels. Tholos has a beautiful beach. In the village, the traditional way of life is still widely practiced and the very friendly people give a warm welcome to every- body. Don't miss to visit the picturesque Agios Spiridonas church, with its lovely white bell tower. The old centre of Tholos is built in traditional Rhodian style. With tall shuttered buildings and narrow streets, it is a delight to wander through.
Tholos resort is only 5 kilometres far from the famous butterfly valley.
The Valley of the Butterflies is worth a visit, because there are species of colourful butterflies which are unique in the world.
The Valley of the Butterflies of Rhodes located 20 kilometres from Rhodes town, and is near by the Village Kalamonas.
This is a lush green Valley ,with a small river running through it. The site is Beautifully arranged, with little wooden Bridges ,stone steps,and an uphill path which leads to the Monastery of the Virgin of Kalopetra
At the entrance of the Valley there are souvenir shops.The Valley of the Butterflies is a unique natural Park, where each year from June to September ,thousands of multicoloured butterflies appear.
The Park is a nice place to walk ,under the shade of the trees. The characteristic scent of the pine resin, which attracts the butterflies ,the coolness from the abundantly flowing waters ,make this a small paradise even during the hot days of the summer.
