Bagneres de Luchon

Bagneres de Luchon is known as the 'Queen of the Pyrenees' located in the Haute Garonne area of the Midi Pyrenees. It is 87m to the South West of Toulouse at the foot of the central Pyrenees in a beautiful valley.

Luchon is at the end of a branch line of the Southern railway from Montrejeau which then links to major towns and cities in France however it is recommended to travel by car to fully appreciate the town and the region.

Bagneres de Luchon is known for its thermal springs and baths. Guests can visit the thermes to experience the hot sulphurous caves that run for around 100 metres inside the mountain and the lovely pool with a view through the window of the surrounding mountains.

The thermes are situated at the end of the Allées d'Étigny, a tree lined long avenue with numerous shops, bars and restaurants.

Luchon is twinned with Harrogate in the United Kingdom.

The ski resort, Superbagneres was historically connected to the town by a raily but today there is a gondola lift from the centre of town which takes 10 minutes to reach the resort and offers the most fabulous views for those who use it. It is open in Winter for skiers and also Summer for cyclists and walkers.

Luchon is popular with cyclists and bikers, especially in Summer who love the various climbs including Superbagneres, Col de Peyresourde, Port de Bales, Col du Portillon, Col de Mente and the Col d'Aspet. The Tour de France route often passes through Luchon and its neighbouring towns and villages.

Other facilities Luchon offers include a 9-hole golf course which is one of the oldest in the area, paragliding, tennis, gliding, open air swimming pool, tennis and fishing in lakes and rivers.
