Bakau

Bakau is a town on the Atlantic Ocean coast of The Gambia, lying west of the capital, Banjul. It is known for its botanical gardens, its crocodile pool 'Kachikally' and for the beach at Cape Point. It is the first major suburb outside Banjul and the most developed town in The Gambia.

Bakau lies at the northern end of a 10 km stretch of the Atlantic Coast that has been developed for the European sun trade. Hotels/guest houses can be found to suit every budget.
Cape Point is where the southern bank of the river meets the ocean. It has probably the best and safest beach in the country.

"A sacred pool in Gambia's tourist town of Bakau has become a major attraction for foreign visitors to the west African country.
The pool, discovered hundreds of years ago by the natives of Bakau some 14km (8 miles) from the capital Banjul, is home to more than 100 crocodiles.
Every morning scores of foreign tourists visit the pool to play and have their photos taken with the reptiles who are so used to people they can be petted.
The pool, surrounded by a forest of beautiful tropical flowers and trees with different species of birds, is believed to have supernatural healing powers." From article found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/1078183.stm)

Bakau is great, it has everything most holiday makers want. Bars, places of entertainment, supermarket, practical places like chemists, doctors, dentists, & many things to see & do all within walking distance.
Nor is Bakau a big impersonal city. It is a vibrant yet friendly small town. Anything any one may want is available here, including being able to walk
out of town into the bush!
