Costa Calma

Placed partly of the center of Fuerteventura's island, it includes also all the south of the island (Jandía's peninsula). It has the populations of: Ajuy, Cardón, Chilegua, Cofete, Costa Calma, La Lajita, La Pared, Las Hermosas, Mézquez, Morro Jable, Pájara, Puertito de la Cruz y Toto.
The municipality has the major extension of beaches of Canaries. Stand out those of Sotavento, Cofete y Morro Jable. In the locality of Pájara it is possible to visit the church of Nuestra Señora de la Regla, initially constructed in 1687 and later extended. Its portico is of Aztec inspiration, splashed with adorned with feathers heads, serpents, the Suns and pumas and, though there is not known the origin of the height of her virgin, their features lead to thinking that it she comes from Mexico.
Places of interest apart from their magnificent beaches: natural Monument Ajuí shelters oceanic and fossil sediments of marine already missing animals. Jandía's Nature reserve in the peninsula of the same name, with abundant species protected. The natural Monument Montaña Cardón of scientific interest for its richness nature.
Ajuy preserves a singular seaworthy flavor with the Puerto de la Peña, point of disembarkation of the Hispanic conquerors, the unique place of the islands where it is possible to observe fragments of the continental African plate.
The maximum height of the island is located in Macizo de Jandía in the so called Pico de la Zarza, with 807 meters of altitude. It is not certainly its height the more emphasized from it but its silhouette, which stands out dominating the impressive landscape spied from the isthmus of La Pared.
In La Lajita places the Parque del Camello, where it is possible to contemplate a tropical oasis that includes a zoo in which there coexist more than 200 animal, species proceeding from the whole world and to give a walk to loinsof a camel. Recommended for the children and not so children.
There exists a legend that tells that if in a night walk we manage to see a light flotantando in the air, it can be Marina de Múxica's spirit. It is Mafasca's Light or the soul in A Marina de Múxica's sorrow, who after coming to Morro Jable fleeing of a sentence of the Holy Inquisition had to face the survival in a hostile way. One day, his servant, Pedro Darias, found huntand, to roast it, did not find any more wood that that of a cross that was hot. Because of it they say that they cover their souls in a sorrow...
