Rodi Milici

Posta su una verde collina ad est del torrente Patrì, la cittadina consta dei due piccoli centri di Rodì e Milici che hanno storie diverse.
Le origini antiche sono testimonianze dalla presenza di una necropoli, posta sul monte Pirgo, formata da sarcofagi greci e di una fortezza con una cinta muraria non molto spessa e due torri poderose; probabilmente sono i resti dell'antica città di Longane.
Il toponimo "Rodì" deriva da Rodi ed è perciò di origine greca. Rodì fu infatti fondata probabilmente da coloni rodii mandati in questo luogo dai cavalieri Gerosolomitani, i quali, proprio in questo territorio, e precisamente in Milici, avevano edificato un castello di cui oggi non restano che ruderi.
Anticamente Rodì sorgeva più in basso ma a causa del frequente straripamento del torrente Patrì si rese necessario lo spostamento verso l'alto dell'abitato. Un tempo Rodì era sede di fabbriche di calce e di laterizi scomparse in seguito all'avvento del cemento e all'emigrazione.
Oggi l'economia si basa quasi esclusivamente sull'agricoltura (uva, olive, agrumi, cereali) e sulla pastorizia. L'unica industria esistente è un oleificio. In fase di sviluppo è il turismo.
