Vytina

The first King of the area was Pelasgos. His son Lykaon had a daughter Kallista, the mother of Arkas ... The Ancient Roman poet Virgil put Arcadia on the traveler's map when he described this mountainous district of the Peloponnese as the quintessential land of milk and honey, where shepherds piped ditties to shepherdesses in bee-loud glades. The poet must have had something like Bytina in mind even today, Arcadia's springs, streams and rivers nourish wildflowers and keep the hills and valleys green with stands of cypress, and groves of wlnut, chestnut, almon and fruit trees, well into the summer.

There is no single story houses in this area. They are built by stone with walls up to one meter thick, and built with great care. The corner stones ae the only ones that can be carved ( angonaria). The floors as well as the roof are made by fir wood.

Bytina is always crowded with tourists.
It is full of beautiful footpaths for nature lovers and rough moutain climbs for the more adventurous.

The Ostrakina ski resort is nearby.

Bytina is on the road of Athens to Olympia
