Central Macedonia

The region of Central Macedonia in North Greece is home to some of the most famous and popular destinations in the north of the country. This charming region of Greece attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year.

Central Macedonia is an area with a very important historical background, as well as being a place of stunning natural beauty.

The economic and cultural centre of Central Macedonia is the city of Thessaloniki, which is the second largest city in Greece after the capital of Athens. It is also the second most populated city in Greece, again after Athens.

The region of Central Macedonia consists of the counties of Imathia, Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Pellas, Pieria and Chalkidiki ( Halkidiki ).

These six counties each have their own charm and beauty, that when combined with each other, create one of the most diverse and beautiful regions for holidays in Greece any time of the year.

Chalkidiki is one of the most popular destinations in Central Macedonia, and the beautiful peninsulas that stretch out into the Aegean Sea create a landscape that is unlike any other you will find in Greece. With the rich vegetation and greenery, the region is a delight for both the heart and mind.

The peninsula of Agio Oros is a part of Greece that is inhabited soley by the members of the various monasteries that are scattered around the region since the Byzantine years. Visitors to the region can pay a visit to these monasteries, where you can see some remarkable scenery, and a way of life that has changed very little over the years.

There are many other interesting places and sites to see all over the Central Macedonia region. The archaeological site of Vergina is one such example, and a place that many will pay a visit to.

The entire region of Central Macedonia is well organised for tourism, and is ideal for holidays both during the summer and winter months. Visitors will find a huge selection of various accommodation all across the region, as well as many organised excursions for various trips and adventures to places around the area.
